Gas Station Road Trip Tips to Help on the Road

Admin • April 13, 2021

When you take an extended road trip, you will often find yourself stopping at gas stations to fill up and take a short rest. As you seek out gas stations for your journey, consider a number of tips to help with the road trip and make the process go smoothly.

The tips will prevent annoyances, keep your car clean, and make you energized for the open road.

Car Rental Gas Pump Tips

If you've rented a car for your road trip, you may not be used to all of the features and design aspects of the vehicle. As you pull into the gas station, you will want to know what side the gas tank is on. Instead of getting out to look and shuffling your car around to different pumps, you can look right on the car dashboard.

Next to the gas pump icon, you should see a small triangle. The triangle sits on the side of the icon that the gas tank access is on. So if it's on the left, then you will find the opening on the driver's side and the reverse on the passenger's side.

Antibacterial Wipes

Bringing a tube of antibacterial wipes on a road trip not only helps with spills, messes, and virus prevention, but you can use the wipes at a gas station. Sometimes a little gasoline will flick out and land on your hands and clothing. While it may not seem like a lot, the strong scent of gas can fill your car for the next few hours of a road trip.

The use of antibacterial wipes will help eliminate the gas scent. You may also consider packing a small bottle of liquid pumice soap. The gritty nature of pumice helps eliminate grime and grease. You can take a little soap into the gas station bathroom to clean the gas smell off your hands.

Squeegee Use

The complimentary squeegee and window cleaner provided by gas stations can help clear your windshield of debris, but that is not the only use of the cleaning product. You should also use the squeegee on your headlights and taillights. As you drive, bugs and dust is drawn directly to the lights. With a squeegee, you can completely clear the lights off.

You will notice a difference at night when the headlights shine brighter without the extra dust and debris blocking off beams. Once you have done the process a couple of times, cleaning off your headlights will just come naturally each time you go to the gas station.

Plastic Grocery Bags

As you embark on your road trip, keep a small plastic grocery bag inside the car. Anytime you have garbage like wrappers or used napkins, throw the items in the bag. Once you arrive at the gas station, you can toss the bag right into a complimentary garbage bin.

The extra organization will help keep your car clean for the duration of the trip and reduce the amount of clutter in the vehicle.

Caffeine Alternatives

Having energy is an important part of extended drives. Gas stations provide a lot of quick energy boost options like coffee or caffeinated sodas, but you can enjoy a boost of energy in the form of special snacks you purchase at the gas station.

Protein-based snacks like almonds and beef jerky will give you a boost of energy as your body breaks down the foods. The chewing process will also help keep you awake and energized. Chewing mint-flavored gum can also give you a boost of energy and keep you alert as you drive for extended hours.

For all of your road trip needs, stop by one of our Biltmore Oil stores. The large interiors have a lot to offer and can make ideal rest stop locations as you travel through the North Carolina area.
